TORONTO ACTION FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

Building Community through Nonviolent Action

TORONTO ACTION FOR SOCIAL CHANGE is the Toronto chapter of Homes not Bombs, and has a lengthy history of direct actions in the Metro Toronto area, from the Corporate Hypocrite Campaign at Loblaws (which netted the arrests of Santa, the Easter Bunny, Robin Hood and the Great Pumpkin) to plant-ins and pray-ins at the Ontario Legislature, a campaign against welfare cutting by Andersen Consulting, the Saturday Night Anti-Sexism Squad Inc (SNASSI), and much more. We were very busy from 1995 through 2000, after which much of our activity was focused on a provincial level through Homes not Bombs and the Campaign to Stop Secret Trials. Still, though, members of Toronto's Counter-Intelligence and Anti-Terrorism Squad get all t misty-eyed when they hear we're gearing up for a local demo.
